Hi, I would just like to say that I really hate people who use the argument "be a little open minded." It's usually used in the most hypocritcal way possible, but the person who uses it is too mind-numbingly stupid to realize it. Just die all of you who say this. DIE.

New here. Besides being a cheeky bastard as it is, I thought having a 'cheeky bastard' community slapped to my LJ ass couldn't hurt.

I'm Lauren. Charmed, I'm sure.

I wish I could kill people and it would be legal.
But, I guess that would kick my ass,
Because then I'd be dead.

ok...here's a little thought experiment.

here are two numbers

10 and 9.999 repeating forever...let's just call it 9.99, but remember that it goes on

are these different numbers?
clearly they are...let's prove that.

let's call 9.99=X
10X=99.99

now....

99.999forever=10X
- 9.99forever=X
------------------
90=9X
divide both sides by 9 and we get
X=10

ok you math people, have fun!

i rarely do this, in fact i think i only have once in the whole time of this journal, but i'm going to talk about something that happened in my day. I was trying to kill time, like an hour and a half's worth of time, so i started reading some music magazines: filter, AP, and there was one more with My chemical romance on the cover that i can't recall the name of. anyways, it's not too important. what is important is how angry these readings made me. here's one aspect of it; the writters for these three publications seem to know nothing of the history of any of the genre's expect for the history of "punk" and then it's only as shallow as what watching SLC Punks would teach you. the bands are no better with knowing their own genre's history, aside from the blood brothers, who actually knew that "emo" now is equatible to "shit" and it didn't used to be that way... but his was before chris carraba and conor oberst came and ruined it, turning it into self-loathing bullshit with no aims further or deeper than getting into scene girls' short frillie skirts. to prove this musical illiteracy, i don't feel like i need to look to the phrase "taking back sunday's brutal vocals..." what the fuck?!!?!? i wanted to kill everyone in sight when i first read the phrase. taking back sunday and "brutal" should never be in the same paragraph. and what's worse, My Chemical Romance was praised for their technical drum work and dark atributes. I thought i was going to die on sight. now, i understand that this is a magazine for "marketible" indie rock, a phrase that i can't say without a think layer of sarcasm, but still, i could name a slew of musicians that are easily more tallented than MCR. Though i'm not a fan of the route that the new blood brothers' cd took, i am glad that they know their shit; however, AP's subtitle of the interview is "is hardcore dead?" what the fuck? are the blood brothers the capstone of hardcore? i can't believe that these "writters" can consider themselves music savvy. There are INDIVIDUALS who have more impact on hardcore than the blood brothers. i'm not saying they are bad or anything close to that. but aren't they simple re-doing what The Refused did five years ago, but with twin vocals? But this is not a post about the blood brothers. What made me livid was when i read Filter... there was a five page review of the new interpol cd, and not until the LAST paragraph was music mentioned. The EXACT SAME THING happened in another main review. The interviewer once again tried to recreate such a travisty of musical writting with Bjork, but since i'm in love with her, i'll give her credit for at least trying to keep on the subject of her music instead of following his questions' leads into her fashion. If i were to read these three peices of musical debochary, i would think there was no hope for underground music, expect for worshiping the ramons and listening to the new green day album. thank god i'm not that innept, but it makes me wonder about the future sincerity of underground music. won't we finally get sick of the lack of it?

Meaning of life and the existence of God: i think that the meaning of life is probably different for everyone, and i dont think its that important what the meaning is, just that you have one. believing in God gives some people meaning to their life. i personally do not believe in God, i take more of an agnostic stance. the important thing is just that we have meaning, a central motivation, and for many people God is the best thing to fill that need.

Meaning of life and the existence of God: I'm a pagan and proud of it. I believe in lots of little gods and three 'main gods'. My religion is very ecclectic, so i cant really explain it without writing a fucking massive post. I pretty much took some ideas from a few different religions and pasted them together. ANYWAYS, I'm pretty convinced that we're here to eat, fuck and die- Just like any other organism- We just happen to enjoy it more than most animals.

in response to directetiquette's demand for posts:

well, i'll take the literal way out. here goes:

1) the secret history. everybondy alive should read this book by donna tartt. i read it for the first time about two years ago on a plane back from italy--i started and suddenly looked up to find that i had crossed the atlantic ocean and was still reading ferociously. i swear to god this book makes you read like you would eat if you had been starving for a month in the desert and then happened upon a whole foods. it's amazingly well written, the characters are incredible (and eerily familiar in some cases), and it's a blast for anyone who likes the classics (especially greek). i hear they're making a movie soon and all i have to say is they BETTER get it fucking right. if/when it comes out, i'll rant about it here i guess, should they get it *wrong*!

2) garden state. better than my expectations and more--really, if this is still playing near you, go see it! i have a LOT of respect for zack braff now; writing, directing, and starring in an effin' good movie--that's hot. p.s. peter saarsgard (i'm not checking my spellings but i hope that's right) is AWESOME in it. i think he's kind of chanelling a young philip seymour hoffman (i.e. my husband). great movie. for real.

3) in tenebris. okay, now i know you're all like "...who?" my awesome friend is the bassist for this band, and they kick some ass. it's his fault that i now have a mr. hyde half in the goth underworld. but seriously, if you've never heard *good* "goth" music, these guys are it. and if you live in virginia (esp. near charlottesville or richmond or the va beach areas) and can see them live, DO IT. they're a DAMN good show. (WOO shameless plug!)

yeah, so... check it all out yo! over and out.
